nvosa.jpgThis dystopian novel was very much similar to divergent. To start off with, I really liked the vibes the book was giving off: mystery, suspense, thriller. These were all the things that got me to pick up this book, as well as the hype. When I read the goodreads summary, I thought it was interesting enough. Being guilty of watching the movie first, I had high expectations. But when I started reading the book, it was mostly dragged out, making it slow to read. In addition, the plot of this book was very fascinating and intriguing but the characters supporting the plot lacked in depth. This means that whenever the author was talking about a character he literally wrote how the character was feeling. For example, Thomas was “scared” and “terrified” this only illustrates the feeling rather than us feeling what the character is feeling. Speaking of characters, there was was absolutely no character development at all. Most of the characters didn’t go through any change, which made them different or better.

The setting of the book had no origin. What I mean by that is that, there was no back story as to how the maze came to be. Even if the characters didn’t know the origin, the narrator should have filled us in as the book was written in 3 person. Also I found it very confusing and weird that all these people were placed in the maze world to find a cure for a disease. Overall, I didnt enjoy this book at all.
